Perfect location for industry, business and tourism

The days of Werdenberg and Sarganserland as primarily agricultural regions are long gone. They are still rural areas, but they have developed into two of Switzerland’s best-known high-tech hubs, while their industrial and commercial sectors have both grown strongly.

Around 40,000 people already work in Sarganserland and Werdenberg. Will you be joining them? Quite possibly. As figures over recent years show, the number of workers in the region is growing faster than the average for the canton as a whole. This demographic and economic trend is also influenced by the proximity of the Principality of Liechtenstein and its strong economy.

The proportion of our economy dedicated to industry and commerce is also above the average for the canton: just over a third of our workforce works in industry or commerce, with about 60 per cent in the service sector. These figures are evidence of a long tradition. The textile industry was quick to make its mark in Alpine Rhine Valley in the early twentieth century, and was soon followed by the machinery industry that developed around it.

Werdenberg and Sarganserland: different focal points

Werdenberg boasts a particularly high concentration of industrial and commercial business. Key sectors for the local economy include machinery, automotive supply chain, metal construction, chemicals and manufacturing electronic equipment. Werdenberg has also been shaped by its involvement in high-tech, export-focused sectors – as has the St. Gallen Rhine Valley.

Sarganserland’s economy is broader-based. Its range of resorts and wellness facilities mean it has great potential for health tourism, and local businesses also provide specialist services for rehabilitation, gerontology and fitness. Given all that, it’s no surprise that the health and social care sectors are the biggest employers in Sarganserland, closely followed by tourism. The region boasts internationally renowned brands like Heidiland and Grand Hotel Bad Ragaz, as well as stunning destinations like Pizol, Flumserberg and Walensee.

So, what are you waiting for? Join Sarganserland-Werdenberg’s vibrant economy now!
